St. John Paul II once remarked that, "it is an illusion to think we can build a true culture of human life if we do not accept and experience sexuality and love and the whole of life according to their true meaning and close interconnection. " (EV 97)
We as Christians hear A LOT about God's love. Everyday, every prayer, every Mass we hear about His great love and how we are to "love one another as He loves us." Yet in all our familiarity with the concept of God's love, I fear we have lost or even worse, never even found the true meaning of that love.
If God created us by love and to love, it would follow that if we did not recognize that love, understand and live in it, then we would not comprehend the meaning of our being and existence.
We would be confused and left with countless questions about life, love and eternal joy.
John Paul II saw this and responded. He gave us the answer.

The Theology of the Body.
What is it ?Theology of the Body is a teaching on what it means to be fully human — male and female. Theology of the Body is St. John Paul II’s first major teaching project as pope. It is a grand proposal to the world of the deepest meaning of life and love made visible in the body.
|
What does it teach?Theology of the Body answers the questions of every human life: Who am I? Why am I here? How can I be happy? Through the Bible and Catholic tradition, Theology of the Body explains that our bodies reveal the deepest mysteries of God and humanity. Theology of the Body offers that God wants us to know Him through our humanity: our sexuality, our relationships, our joys, and our struggles.
|
What does it mean?Theology of the Body proposes a fresh view of God’s love that leads to deep awareness of human dignity, identity, and purpose. This vision produces wonder, peace, joy, and a sense of reverence for oneself and others. Theology of the Body instills confidence in one’s ability to live life as a gift to the world.
